William "Bud" Royal, 95, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday February 19, 2024 at home. He was born January 5,1929 in Portsmouth, a son of the late William and Dorthea Smith Royal. He was a member of Cedar Street Church of Christ in Christian Union and was a retired Sargent with the U.S. Marines. He loved to read, listen to gospel music, gardening, trap shooting and most of all spending time with his family. His soul purpose in life was to spread the Gospel to all he came in contact with. Bud is survived by his wife, Sharon Alexander Royal; two sons, Robert Lee Royal and wife Wanda of Knoxville, TN and Mike Craft of Lucasville; four daughters, Donna Lilly of Portsmouth, Pam Spires and husband Larry of Lucasville, Patty Shaw of Portsmouth, Debbie Johnson and husband Bill of Waverly; two sisters, Cora Middleton of Portsmouth and Theresa Odell of Dayton; 19 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 sons, William Nelson Royal and William David Craft; 4 brothers, Lawrence, Tom, Charlie and Dick Royal; 3 sisters, Geraldine Gibson, Nancy Meadows, Joy Murta and a great-grandson, Zane Williams. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Friday February 23, 2024 at Cedar Street Church of Christ in Christian Union with Pastors Brad Angus and Andrew Hottinger officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park with Military Honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Thursday February 22, 2024 at D.W.
