Walter E. Irvin

Age 78 of Portsmouth passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at SOMC Hospice Center. He was born June 14, 1938 in Scioto County, a son of the late Walter and Margaret Byers Irvin. Walter was a former truck driver, a U.S. Marine Veteran, and a member of the AMVETS. He loved bowling, working on cars, traveling, and playing horseshoes with his wife.

He is survived by two daughters, Debra Sorrell of Columbus and Sandra (Mike) Giannetti of Portsmouth; five sons, Steven (Barb) Jarells of Kentucky, Rodney (Connie) Jarrells of Portsmouth. David Jarrells of Gallipolis, Bill (Claudia) Jarrells of Kansas, and Walter (April) Irvin of Portsmouth; one sister, Audrey McGinnis of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews, especially one he was very fond of, D.J. Irvin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Irvin; a brother, Duane Irvin; and two sisters, Nancy Stapleton and Ruth Dodridge.

Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. Friday June 24, 2016 at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Pastor Ralph Shaffer officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home Online condolences may be left at www.DWSwickNelsonFuneralHome.com
