Walter Lee Burchett Sr, 80, of Minford passed away at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He was born December 16, 1944, to the late Walter Dayton and Donna (Blackburn) Burchett in Minford. Walter was a retired machine operator for Norfolk & Western Railway, skilled handyman and avid gamer who ran the Walt’s Sharp-All Shop and Video Game Rental from his home for many years. He was a 1962 graduate of Minford High School and a member of the Jehovah’s Witness faith for most of his life, where he attended the Rosemount Kingdom Hall.
Walter is survived by two sons, Walter Lee Burchett Jr of Minford and Matthew Lewis Burchett (Lori) of Fayetteville, NC; one sister Erma Joyce (Burchett) Lambert of Wakefield; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Alice Elaine Burchett; a son, Jerry Dayton Burchett; two brothers, Glen Ray Burchett and Paul Thomas Burchett Sr; three sisters, Virginia Burchett, Helen Jean (Burchett) Cordle and Mary Ellen (Burchett) Mayfield; and a great-granddaughter Octavia Taylor-Moore. The family would like to express their gratitude towards the staff of SOMC Hospice.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday January 21, 2025, at SWICK BENTLEY FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Gary Doddridge officiating. Interment will follow at White Cemetery in Minford Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4:00 p.m. Until 6:00 p.m. and one hour before the service on Tuesday.
