Vernon Lee Chinn, 77, of New Boston, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at SOMC Hospice Center. He was born Jan. 6, 1932 in Wurtland, KY., a son of the late Doyle and Chloe Melvin Chinn. He was a graduate of Wurtland High School in the class of 1950. He enlisted in the United States Army and served our country with the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War and was a member of the Ashland V.F.W. After returning home from the military, Vernon worked a couple of different jobs before starting at Armco Steel (AK Steel) in Ashland where he retired in 1993. Vernon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Vernon is survived by his two children, Jeff (Lisa) Chinn and Patti (Miles) Ferguson all of Portsmouth; a daughter-in-law, Gail Chinn; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Walker, Miles L. (Ashley) Ferguson, Michal Chinn, Sarah Chinn, Jeffery Doyle Chinn, Gretchen Weaver and T.J. (Stephanie) Chinn; four great-grandchildren, MaKenna Rose Walker, Alayna Faith Walker, Gracie Nicole Ferguson and Jackson Gregory Chinn; two sisters, Mary (Paul) Kleykamp of Ashland, KY. and Jerri (Jack) Turner of Flatwoods, KY.; one brother, Richard Chinn of Norfolk, VA. and a dear friend, Jane Stidham. Vernon was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Chinn in 2000; a son, Greg Chinn in 1997, a great-granddaughter, Mylee Grace Ferguson in 2007 and two brothers, Phillip and Doyle Chinn Jr. Services will be 11 AM Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with Pastors Jeff Chinn, Miles Ferguson and Mark Bales officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion. Visitation will be Monday 5 to 8 PM and Tuesday 10 to 11 AM at D.W. Swick in New Boston.
