Vercie Eloise Stevens, 89, of Portsmouth died Sun. Feb. 6, 2011 at SOMC Hospice Center. She was born Feb. 4, 1922 in Portsmouth a daughter of the late Joseph and Dona Montgomery Artis. She was a former waitress and member of the Sciotoville Nazarene Church. She is survived by two sons, David (Sharon) Stevens of Portsmouth, Danial Ray (Karen) Stevens of Daytona Beach, FL.; a special great-granddaughter, Alena Grace Stevens of Mason; a step daughter-in-law, Mary Lawson of Otway; three brothers, Glen Artis of Kokomo, Ind., Paul Artis of Wheelersburg and Leonard Artis of Columbus; 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Stevens whom she married on Aug. 4, 1946 in Greenup, KY. and 2 brothers, Homer and Chester Artis and a stepson,Gary Lawson. Services will be 2 PM Wed. Feb. 9, 2011 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday 12 noon to 2 PM at D.W. Swick in New Boston.
