Velma Payton

Velma Payton, 78, of New Boston passed away Tuesday May 18, 2021. She was born July 9, 1942 in Pikeville, KY., a daughter of the late Robert and Josephine Meadows Collins. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, she loved to preach, teach Sunday school and was very active with the church. She loved to sew and bake and she catered to many business making cakes for them. Velma is survived by a son, Mark Payton and wife Laura of New Boston; a daughter, Lori Grant-Payton of New Boston; a brother, Lennie Collins and wife Nora of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Zack Grant, Nathan Payton, Melany Grant, Bailey Conkel, Lauren Payton and two great-granddaughters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Payton; brothers, Carl, Don, Con, Arnis and Richard Collins; sisters, Ann Kelly and Roberta Farnish. Visitation will be 11 AM to 12 Noon Friday May 21, 2021 at the Church of God of Prophecy with funeral services to follow at 12 Noon with Pastor Michael Dempsey officiating.
