Roger M. Goddard, 71, of New Boston died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Southern Ohio Medical Centers Hospice Center after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 25, 1936 in Portsmouth a son of the late Earl and Helen Young Goddard. He worked as a Sargent At Arms for the Ohio House of Representatives, was a member of James Dickey Post 23, American Legion and Portsmouth Masonic Lodge # 48. He also worked as a guard at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, and worked for the former Empire Detroit Steel Corp. and New Boston Local schools. After retirement, he worked parttime as a greeter at Walmart. Roger was a 1954 graduate of Glenwood High School and proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Janet Sue Kemp Goddard whom he married on September 28, 1957; two children, Roger M. Goddard Jr. and Helen R (Daniel) Scherer; four grandchildren, Andy and Amy Scherer and Roger "Butch" Goddard III and Haylee Lowery. Services will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with Rev. Gary Heimbach officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Burial Park with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion.
