Phyllis Joyce Harrod, a retired truck driver and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born on May 19, 1941, in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was a graduate of East High School, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with diligence and resilience.
Phyllis was more than her career; she embodied a spirit of service and dedication. During her years as a truck driver, she traversed many roads, all while maintaining a reputation for her strong work ethic and kindness toward others. Her personality was shaped by her unwavering Christian faith; she loved the Lord and sought to share her joy and compassion with those around her.
In her leisure time, Phyllis found great joy in sewing, a craft where her creativity flourished. She also had an immense love for her dogs, whose companionship added warmth to her life. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate passions and was reflected in her relationships with her family and friends.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Norma Perkins of Louisville, KY; two beloved grandchildren, Amber Byers (Thomas) of Marion and Ashly Larrow of Toledo; and three great-grandchildren, Jordyn Mikolajczyk, Emily Byers, and Abigail Jean Byers, all of Marion, Ohio and beloved step-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave Snyder and Hazel (Whisman) Clark; her husband, Robert Harrod; her daughter, Jacqueline Larrow; and her sisters, Leila Craft and Marie Glickert.
As we remember Phyllis Joy Harrod, we celebrate a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to family. Her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. She went to be with the Lord, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories that will be treasured by her loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Swick Bentley Funeral Home in New Boston with Tamberlyn Brown officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
