Age 80 of New Boston, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth She was born in Portsmouth on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1937 to Berdie E. and Helen Marie (Murphy) Gill A longtime resident of the area, Norma raised four children along with her husband, Bob, and spent eleven years as a clerk for the Salvation Army She was a member of the New Life Worship Center in Portsmouth More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Norma is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob”; son, Wayne Cooley of Portsmouth; daughters, Beverly Charles of Sciotoville, Roberta (Terry) Hamilton of South Shore, KY, Crystal Gifford of St. Petersburg, FL; sister, Betty McKee of Hillsboro; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth, Bobby, Larry, and Charles Gill; sisters, Alberta Gill, Mary Stinson, Zola Blankenship, Barbara Piatt, and Linnie Cook.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at New Life Worship Center in Portsmouth with Pastor Mike Gifford officiating Interment will follow at McKendree Cemetery in Stout Friends may call from 5 – 8 p.m. on Saturday at the church and one hour before the service on Sunday Online condolences may be shared at www.DWSwickNelsonFuneralHome.com D.W.
