Marcella Louella Logan Newman, 84, of New Boston died Thursday Feb. 21, 2013. She was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Shover Logan. Marcella was preceded in death by her one true love, Leroy in 1981. Marcella was the first female Mayor of New Boston and served as Councilwoman for many years and was Council Protem. She worked for Emnett's IGA for 29 years, was a cook at Stanton and Oak St. schools where she enjoyed watching the children grow up. She was a member of First Church of God in New Boston where she worked with the church Outreach Program, was a Kentucky Colonel and just recently a home health care giver. He love for her community and friends was heartfelt. She would give her homemade fudge and cheeseballs to those she cared for as an expression of her love. Marcella and Leroy had one daughter, Debbie, whom they adored. She said she loved every minute of beong her mother. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Spears and husband Mark of Wheelersburg; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Maddison Spears who were her pride and joy; a sister, Ruth Logan of New Boston; 3 brothers, Raymond Logan of Tenn., Charlie and Vivian Logan of Tenn., Donny and Dottie Logan of Wheelersburg. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Douglas, James, Leroy and Ralph Logan; 4 sisters, Yvonne Kirsch, Delores Logan, Avenell Clark and Helen Cooper. Today a wonderful reunion is being held with her husband, parents, siblings and many friends. A celebration honoring Marcella will be 3:00 PM Sunday Feb. 24, 2013 at First Church of God with Pastor Floyd Smith and Pastor Acy Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at 11:00 AM Monday at Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be Saturday 5 to 8 PM at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN NEW BOSTON and Sunday 2 to 3 PM at the church.
