Kimberly Ann Emshwiller, 66, passed away Saturday December 14, 2024, in New Albany, OH, after an extended illness.
Born in Portsmouth, OH, on January 18, 1958, Kim was the youngest of three children born to Ralph and Christine Walters, who both precede her in death. Growing up in Portsmouth, Kim spent her formative years attending dances at the CAY, soaking up the sun at Dreamland pool, and countless hours laughing with her best and lifelong friend, Missy. All memories that she cherished immeasurably and recalled often.
After graduating from Portsmouth High School in 1976, Kim held several jobs, most notably as a caseworker for the Scioto County Jobs and Family Services, and later as a claims analyst for Palmetto GBA, where she retired in 2012. She was lucky enough to make lasting friendships at both jobs thanks to her sense of humor and quick wit.
Kim found the most joy in life from simple pleasures. Whether it was decorating her beloved home for Christmas, or a bright, full moon in a dark sky, the smaller moments made her the happiest. A ride through the forest on a beautiful day with her 70s playlist blaring out from her open sunroof and a cold Pepsi in the cupholder was always her favorite way to spend an afternoon.
In addition to her parents, Kim was also preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Mike Emshwiller, in 2019. Kim said she fell in love with Mike the moment she saw him at a Christmas Eve party in 1975. She has missed him immensely these last five years.
Kim is survived by her daughter, Ashley Layne and husband Eric, and granddaughters, Harper and Ivy. Kim was an incredibly devoted mother and grammy. Making sure her girls were happy and taken care of was her number one priority. The absence of her love and care will be forever felt.
Also surviving are her brother Gene (Jill) Walters, and sisters Michelle (Kenny) Pearell, Nancy Walters, Terri Will, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call the funeral home on Wednesday December 18 2024 from 4:00-7:00pm. At D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in New Boson.
"There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed.
Some forever, not for better;
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living,
In my life I've loved them all"
