Kenneth, “Ken,” or "Kenny,” Eugene Dunn, age 70, of Portsmouth, OH left this world in hand with celestial guides to the great cosmos as he crossed over to the other side to meet with his Lord and Savior, late Tuesday evening, April 9, 2024, in his home.  He is the son of Charles and Gwendolyn Dunn of Wheelersburg.  He was a devoted member of the Ceder Street Church of Christ in Christian Union. He was born on March 11, 1954 at Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1972.

Ken was well known and beloved in the Boneyfiddle community as the “Trumpet-man of Boneyfiddle.”  He earned this moniker for his devotion to playing gospel hymns with his trumpet at different places all over the Boneyfiddle area. He proudly termed his instrument of choice as the “gospel bugle.” He routinely played around dusk as he believed that was the best time to feel and praise God.  Ken devoted much of his free time to writing gospel hymns for the gospel bugle which he played for the community and his church.

Ken was a lifelong Cincinnati Bengals and Ohio State Buckeyes fanatic. He practiced occupational therapy as a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA) for more than 20 years and was among the first students to graduate from Shawnee State University’s first occupational therapy assistant program.

Ken is survived by his wife, Vicki Dunn of McDermott; his parents, Charles and Gwendolyn Dunn of Wheelersburg; two sons, Kenneth (Brandy) Dunn of Portsmouth and Christopher (Abigail) Dunn of Portsmouth.  He is also survived by his siblings including Kathy (Wolfe) of New Boston, Karen (Smith) of Portsmouth, Keith Dunn of Wheelersburg, and Kimberly Horsley of New Boston. He is survived by four grandchildren, Josh Pressley, Kaitlynn (Fritz), Abbigail Dunn and William Dunn, two step-grandchildren, Alyssa and Bryan, a great-grand daughter, Isla Fritz, and a step-great-granddaughter Raylynn, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ken is also leaving behind beloved friends Bernice and Craig McCord who provided immense support during difficult times and Donna Lee, Jill Shively, Vickie Burchett, and Barb Spears. As they were there for him and filled his life with good company and joy.

Ken was preceded in death by lifelong friend Randy Crabtree.

Family would like to extend a special thanks to National Church Residencies including all building staff and building community members as Ken frequently expressed gratitude at the support the building staff and community provided.
