Juan L. Adkins, 68, of Swauger Valley, died Fri. Sept. 4, 2009 at SOMC emergency room. He was born July 24, 1941, a son of the late Carl and Ruby Adkins. He was a former engineer for CSX Railroad, a member of James Erwin Post 622, American Legion and Moose Lodge # 619. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Halley Adkins; five sons, Gordon Adkins of Chester, VA., Keith Thacker, Dale Thacker and Stephaun Thacker all of Minford and Kevin Thacker of Sciotoville; two daughters, Teresa Ault of So. Shore, KY.and Cathy Spradlin of Waverly; four sisters, Connie Erie of Portsmouth, Linda Stephan of Sciotoville, Nola Whitlow of Portsmouth, and Brenda Lasandra of Wheelersburg; three brothers, Mike Adkins, Timothy Adkins and Dennis Adkinsall of Sciotoville. 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also preceeded in death by a son, Phillip Pennington, two brothers, Carl Marshall Adkins and Paul Ellis Adkins. Services will be 2:00 PM Wed., Sept. 9, 2009 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with Pastor Gary Dheel officiating. Burial will be at Harrison Furnace cemetery with military graveside honors by James Erwin Post 622,American Legion. Visitation will be Tues. 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and Wed. 1 to 2 PM at D.W. Swick in New Boston. Online condolences to dwswickfuneralhome.com
