Jerry D. Whitt

Jerry D. Whitt, 71, of Portsmouth went to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, June 6, 2021 with his family by his side at SOMC Hospice Center. He was born March 2, 1950 in Martin, KY a son of the late Otis and Carrie (Thornsberry) Whitt. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James Whitt, Otis Whitt, Larry Whitt and Claude Whitt; brother-in-law, Duard Morman; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Whitt and niece Kelly Morman; two angel babies and his friend and Pastor, Paul Hagen. Jerry was a member of North Moreland Christian Baptist Church and graduated from East High School, class of 1969. He was retired from the Portsmouth Block Company where he was a yard man for many years. But his most important matters in life were his love for God and his family. Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marsha (Johnson) Whitt whom he married on June 18, 1976; a daughter, Jamie (Grub) Scott; two grandchildren, Dean Scott and Kyleigh Scott; brothers, Bill (Nancy) Whitt, Roger (Kathy) Whitt; sisters, Brenda Morman, Linda (Lee) Pack and Joan Whitt; sisters-in-laws, Judy Wiseman, Opal Whitt, Mary Whitt and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to SOMC Hospice and Leslie Toland and Susan Charles. Visitation will be 12 to 2 PM Wednesday June 9, 2021 with funeral services to follow at 2:00 PM at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Pastor Jason Coriell officiating.
