James L. Thompson, 83, of Portsmouth, OH. went to be with the Lord on Sat. Aug. 30, 2014 at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth. He was born May 10, 1931 in Portsmouth a son of the late Rev. James F. Thompson and Thelma Moore Thompson. He was also preceded in death by 1 son, Rick Thompson; 3 sisters, Ramona Thompson, Delores Bobst and Shirley Ford. He is survived by his wife Doris Day Thompson whom he married on Jan. 14, 1950. This year they celebrated 64 years of marriage. He is also survived by 5 sons, Larry Thompson of West Portsmouth, OH., James (Wanda) L. Thompson of Ironton, OH., Steve (Kathy) Thompson of South Shore, KY., Lonnie (Renee) Thompson of West Portsmouth, OH. and Greg (Barbara) Thompson of Portsmouth, OH.; 3 daughters, Sharyn (Jeff) Miller of Portsmouth, OH., Karen (Brian) Sexton of LaPorte, Texas and Brenda (Tim) Ellifritt of Wheelersburg, OH. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of New Life Family Worship Center in Portsmouth, OH. for several years. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday Sept. 3, 2014 at New Life Family Worship Center with interment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 6 to 9 PM at D.W.
