James Edward Cook Jr., born on January 21, 1978, in Portsmouth, passed away at home on March 12, 2025. He was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and joy.

James was known for his vibrant spirit and zest for life, which manifested in his many hobbies and interests. He found immense joy in fishing, spending quiet hours by the water, reflecting on life and sharing stories with those he loved. His passion for the game of baseball was evident, whether he was watching a local team play or reminiscing about his favorite players. Additionally, James enjoyed playing pool, where his competitive shined through, always inviting friends to join him for a game.

The love he had for those around him was profound. James was particularly fond of the company of women and embraced the relationships he nurtured throughout his life. He approached every friendship with sincerity and warmth, earning him the title of a good friend to many, including Dan Ross, who shared many memorable moments with him.

James is survived by his mother, Lisa (Lykins) Kurtz, and his stepfather, Paul Kurtz. He also leaves behind his brothers, Patrick Turner (Justine) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Johnny Lee Kurtz of Florida, Shawn Len Kurtz of West Portsmouth, and his sisters, Shelly (Carl) Lewis of West Portsmouth, Kellie (Johnny) Welton of Texas, Katie Carver of South Shore, and Tiffany Kurtz of West Portsmouth. His absence will be deeply felt by his nieces and nephews, Dalton Lewis, Gregory Kurtz, and Aubri Kurtz, who he cherished immensely.

James Edward Cook Jr. touched the lives of many during his time on earth, and though he will be greatly missed, his spirit and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
