Ilene (Scherer) Mckenzie

Age 88 of Portsmouth, passed away May 10, 2017 at Bridgeport Health Care She was born September 24, 1928 in Portsmouth to the late Edward and Thelma (Turner) Scherer She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Elvin McKenzie and her sister, Marilyn Scherer Born.

She is survived by her son, Paul Edward McKenzie and his wife, Esther (Kaeo) McKenzie; a sister, Ruth Scherer Jackson.

Ilene graduated from St. Mary’s High School of Portsmouth in 1947 She worked at the telephone company, William’s Shoe Factory, and as an aide at Mercy and SOMC Hospitals She was a devoted wife and mother and had strong family ties to both the Scherer and McKenzie families Ilene was loved by all her coworkers and was a joy to be around.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Monica's Catholic Church on Saturday, May 13, 2017 with Father Joseph Yokum officiating Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with the Rosary at 7:30 In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hospice of Portsmouth.
