Howard Emmett Pherson, Jr.

Howard E. Pherson Jr., age 90 of Wheelersburg, passed away January 16, 2017 at Best Care in Wheelersburg. He was born March 18, 1926 in Portsmouth to Howard Sr. and Ada (Clites) Pherson Howard served during World War II in the Army, was a passionate Ohio State Buckeye sports fan, loved word puzzles, and coin collecting Early in his working life he worked at the Portsmouth Receiving Hospital and more recently worked in retail and at Lowes. He attended Franklin Avenue Methodist Church.

Howard is survived by his wife, Wellma; three sons, Howard Pherson III of Waverly, Charles Preston Pherson of Waverly, Jonathan Louis Pherson (Jennifer) of Wakefield; three daughters, Sheila Kay Pherson of Waverly, Lorna Denise Charles (Homer) of Raredon, Kathleen Ann Myers of Waverly; one stepson, James Johnson (Devonna Kaji, M.D.) of San Francisco, CA; one sister, Arlene Newman of Portsmouth; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren, Andrew James Johnson of Fresno, CA, Reagan Kaji Johnson of Las Vegas, NV In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Pherson, two sisters in infancy, Adah and Alma, and stepdaughter, Alice Jean Johnson.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday January 20, 2017 at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in New Boston Interment will follow in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Military rites will be provided by the James Dickey Post #23, American Legion.
