Frances L. "Sug & Mams" Gartin, 74, of Portsmouth died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the SOMC emergency room. She was born Jan. 14, 1935 in Dunlow, W.VA., a daughter of the late S. J. and Martha Hearld Workman. She was of the Baptist Faith and attended the 7Th Street Christian Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, William R. Gartin Sr. whom she married on Oct. 27, 1953 and shared 56 glorious years; children, Oscar Earl Gartin and wife Joyce of Portsmouth, William Rule Gartin Jr. of Portsmouth, Belinda Gartin of Portsmouth, Chester Eric Daulph Gartin and Brenda L. Gartin of New Bern, N.C.; two brothers, Jim Workman and wife Helen of Lavelette, W.VA. and Charles Workman and wife Billie of Utah. 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and a very special sister in law, Lillian Buckley of New Boston. She was also preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Services will be 11 AM Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with Pastor Rick Mollett officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday 5 to 8 PM and Thurs. 10 to 11 AM at D.W. Swick in New Boston. Online condolences to dwswickfuneralhome.com.
