C.Elmo Holbrook, 75, of Grace St., New Boston passed away Friday morning Dec. 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cluie B. and Elva Hay Holbrook and his brother, Clay Holbrook of Piketon Rd., Minford. Elmo was born in South Shore, Greenup Co., Kentucky and graduated from McKell High School in 1957 and the Portsmouth Business College. Later on his father purchased the Bennett farm on Piketon Rd. where Elmo farmed his family property for many years, before and during his employment with the Scioto Co. Sheriff office as a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff John Knauff in 1973 and he retired in 1999 after 25 years service. Elmo was well known to the folks of Scioto Co. for being a friend to those who were in trouble and needed assistance and if possible and probable, would take them home and advise them to stay there , especially the Siders on Peach Orchid Hill. There were many times that situations were serious and he encountered hardened criminals and was shot at and it took force to restore peace. Mostly, Elmo was known for his humor and it sometimes got him in trouble with his boss J.K. whom would turn and laugh to himself. Elmo is survived by his children, Kathy (Dee) Vogler of West Portsmouth and Chris (Monica) Holbrook of Lucasville; his grandchildren, Ethan, Wesley, J.R. and Braxton Holbrook; brothers Forse (Carol) Holbrook of Amelia, OH. and Estil (Marla) Holbrook of Dayton and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Betty Stamper his lifetime companion of New Boston and the many friends who continued to visit, especially from the Sheriff Office and all those whom he was associated with from the Court House. Services will be 11 AM Monday Dec. 29, 2014 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN NEW BOSTON. Interment will follow at Greenlawn cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 5 TO 7 pm and Monday 10 TO 11 am at the funeral home. Condolences to dwswickfuneralhome.com.
