Edith (Edie) Marie Eller Smith, 90, of Portsmouth, went home to her maker Jesus Christ, on Thursday April 30, 2015 at Hillview Retirement Center, in Portsmouth, OH Edie was born in Gary, WV on December 18, 1924 to the late James and Maggie Sexton Eller. She retired from Clarks/Rinks in 1986 after 20 yrs. of service as department manager of menswear. She was previously employed with Bethlehem Fairfield Shipyards in Baltimore, MD during WWII. Edie was a member of the Sciotoville Christian Church, attended Sunday School Class nine, and was a member of Daughters of America.
She is survived by a son, Carl (Susan) Stone Jr., of Canal Winchester; four daughters, Patti (Rick) Warren, of Columbus, Robin (Jerry) Allen, of Portsmouth, Bev McGinnis (Ron Cooper), of Reynoldsburg, and Bobbie (David) Prater, of Wheelersburg; a sister, Alta Donahue, of Florida, and a brother, James (Carol) Eller Jr., of NC; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents, s he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Roy Eller; five sisters, Lessie Rowlands, Mable Smith, Margaret May Mitchell, June Donahue and Fay Purdum; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Mackenzie Lynn Allen, and a great-grandson, Jai Zeuch.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with Art Marcum, Minister officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Heartland Hospice in Lucasville, OH or to your favorite charity.
