Age 81 of New Boston passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV Earl was born October 9, 1936 in Portsmouth, a son of the late William and Doris (Lesley) White In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers William and James as well as a sister, Wanda Winzeler.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, who he married on October 12, 1962; three sons, Michael (Jessica) White of Columbus, Daniel (Teresa) White of New Boston, and Scott (Kim Marie) White of Hoosick Falls, NY; grandchildren, Dylan, Danielle, Aiden, Liam, Sophia, Tommy, Emily, Payton, Skylar, Shay, and Saibra; also a special friend and part of the family, Erin Birkhimer.

Earl was a Portsmouth High graduate and honorably served in the United States Army Signal Corps from May 1960 to April 1966 He was a member and instructor of the Portsmouth Rifle Club for 25 years and won many ribbons and awards during that time He loved sports and spent fifteen years as a Little League umpire Earl taught his sons and nephew, Ed White, how to play baseball and loved every minute of it Going to a Reds game with Michael and Dylan were special times for him He really enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports In addition, some of Earl’s happiest times were having cookouts and watching the kids have a great time playing and laughing.

Funeral services for Earl will be 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Pastor Gary Heimbach officiating Friends may call from 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to SOMC Hospice Online condolences may be shared at www.DWSwickNelsonFuneralHome.com.
