Donald Ray Hanes

Donald Ray Hanes, 51 of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at home. He was born September 19, 1957, in Portsmouth, a son of Sandra Faye Duncan Still, of Portsmouth, and the late Donald William Hanes. He was a retired from Neal Hatcher Real Estate, and a Marine Corps Veteran. In addition to his mother, survivors include his step-father, James Still; 1 daughter, America Donn Hanes; his girlfriend, Angela Sowards, and her children, Jason Ruggles and girlfriend Jamie Stone, who are expecting a baby; James Ruggles and Leslie Ruggles; 1 sister, Phyllis Kaye Lewis; 2 half brothers, Steve and Mark Hanes; and 1 half-sister, Susan Pedroso. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Charles Hanes. Graveside services will be held 1 PM Friday, July 10, 2009, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military graveside services by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call Friday from 11:30 to 12:30 P.M. at the D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston.
