David Earl Hunter, born March 11, 1938, son of the late Mary Miller Hunter and William Earl Hunter and brother of Mary Darlene Hunter passed away peacefully at his home in Rosemount on May 22, 2024.  David is survived by his wife of 62 years Adelaide Castle Hunter; four children, David Earl Hunter II, Jatrice “Gigi” Castle (Randy), Cynthia Anne Entler (Tom), and Rhonda Renee Hunter; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Matthew Eric Skiver (Penny, Abby, Summer and Greyson), Elizabeth Arn (Jeff, Joeci , Preston), Andrew Castle, Daniel Castle, and Mackenzie Penn.


David graduated from Clay High School in 1956 declining a full basketball scholarship and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in physical science from Ohio University and his Master’s Degree in math education from Morehead State University.  He also did postgraduate work at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Western Washington State University, and Berea College.  He was a high school math and science teacher for thirty years retiring in 1991 from Portsmouth East High School.  He was also a professor at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility for Shawnee State University.  Dave served his community well. He was a Clay Township school board member and president, Little League president, and coached Little League, Senior League, Softball, and Basketball.    Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life and he wrote articles for an outdoor magazine.  He was the Secretary/Treasurer for the Greenup County Wildlife Club and a concealed carry instructor for the NRA.  He volunteered and supervised  building of HUD housing, did volunteer work for over 20 years at the Scioto County Fair, and taught Sunday School.  Dave was honest, strong and hard-working.  He was very loved by family, friends, and former students and he will be dearly missed.


Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 28, 2024 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Rev. Adam Satterfield and Pastor Mike Queen officiating.  Interment will follow at Rosemount Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
