Darlene Horner, 97, of Portsmouth passed away Friday September 23, 2022 peacefully at home. She was born November 24, 1924 in Scioto County, a daughter of the late Ernest and Bertha (Niece) Eggers. She was a member of Harrisonville Ave Church of God, she loved to play the piano, hang wall paper and spending time with her grandchildren. She took in every stray animal and kids. Darlene is survived by two sons, Charles Horner and Larry Horner both of Portsmouth; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson Elliot Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Horner whom she married on June 2, 1946 in Greenup, KY; a daughter, Janice Sue Ricksneuwoehner; a stepdaughter, Latricia Thomas; a son Harry Williams and an infant son; two brothers, Joseph Eggers and Herbert Eggers; a sister, Dorothy Shaffer; grandson, Jason Horner, daughter-in-law and best friend, Brenda Horner. For the past several years she has been cared for by her granddaughter. The family wants to thank her Pastors, Sam Salyer and Dean Thompson, Interim Home Care, Gail, SOMC Hospice, Kim, Susie, Monica, Jenny and Julie. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday September 27, 2022 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Pastors Sam Salyer and Dean Thompson officiating.
