On 28 May 2013 Clara Y Mathis went home to be with the Lord. We can almost hear her now as she stood, raised her arms and with tears of joy streaming down her face, shouted "THANK YOU, JESUS !!!" She is survived by her son, Arthur Mathis; 4 sisters, Birdie White, Donna Mathis, Brenda Coppock and Veronica Payne; one brother, Marion "Duke" Mathis; one grandchild, Arthur Wilburn and his mother Timbalena Wilburn; close friend, Betty Dunnam; many nieces, nephews and brothers-in-law, Jerry Payne and Dave Braden. She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Arthur Mathis, mother, Marcella Mathis, stepmother, Alice Mathis; one sister, Romona (Moe) Braden, three brothers, James Mathis, Art Mathis and Curtis Mathis; three siblings in childhood and special brother-in-law, Randy Coppock. She loved babies, old people, people in general, leading song fests with her guitar (she used only 3 chords but could get any group to loosen up and have fun), cutting grass on her riding mower, going to a retirement home to sing and play, celebrating Holidays (or any old day!), meeting old classmates for lunch and most of all joining others in praising the Lord. Services will be 2:00 PM Monday June 3, 2013 at Rubyville Community Church with Pastor Calvin Ray Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Rubyville Church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 to 2 PM Monday at the church. Condolences to dwswickfuneralhome.com.
