Charles Douglas (Doug) McGinnis, age 88, of Destin Florida passed peacefully at home on Sept. 6, 2021 with family present. Born Sept. 1, 1933 at Portsmouth, Ohio to Mac Arden McGinnis and Vivian Elizabeth Withrow McGinnis. Married to Susan Kitchen McGinnis in Maui, Hawaii on October 23, 1989. Children are Bruce Douglas McGinnis, Chris Arden McGinnis and wife Susan Nesmith McGinnis of Lake Placid, Florida, Vivian Elizabeth (Beth) McGinnis of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Step-daughter, April Chambers of Destin, Florida. Grandchildren Bruce Douglas McGinnis, Christopher Arden McGinnis, and Ethan Wyatt. Step-grandson Tyler Chambers and Aidan Gearheart. Great grandchildren Bryce McGinnis and Claire Victoria McGinnis. One sister, Jane Arden McGinnis. One beloved fox red lab, Autumn Rose. Preceded in death by granddaughter Angel Dawn McGinnis, step-son, Archie Lee Malone & step-grandson, Justin Leon Adams, niece Marsha Courie. Doug attended Ohio University, Akron, Ohio. Was inducted into The National Rivers Hall of Fame in Dubuque, Iowa in 2008. Past president of the Huntington, WV. Port of the Propeller Club. Life member of Camp Oyo, Portsmouth, Ohio. Member of El Hasa Shriners in Ashland, Ky. Member of Santa Rosa Beach Community Church. Doug was well known for his unusual, humorous storytelling. Memorial Service will be held Friday October. 15, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg with Pastor Aaron Reed officiating. Interment to follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Santa Rosa Beach Community Church Rex Lysinger Preschool Scholarship Fund.
