Barbara Ann Waldeck

Barbara Ann Holsinger Waldeck, 77, beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, succumbed to cancer on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the home and in the loving care of her daughter Karen Kennard and her partner Eric Hessinger in Flemingsburg, KY. She fought a hard battle, but one that could not be beaten. She was a resident of Pioneer Nursing home in Flemingsburg, KY, and previously Golden Years in Vanceburg, KY. She was born May 19, 1934, in New Boston, a daughter of the late Roy and Juanita Simpson Holsinger. Those left to mourn her passing are three daughters, Kathryn Welty Wahl and husband Jack of Norfolk, VA, Dr. Melody Koert-Saul CLA and husband Marcel of Lelystad, Netherlands, Karen Kennard and fiance Eric Hessinger of Flemingsburg, KY; one sister, Debbie Caldwell of Portsmouth, who was by her side during her last days; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews will also miss her love greatly. Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband, James Waldeck; one brother, Gary O. Holsinger; one sister, Roberta Lavender; and her first beloved grandchild, Attica Fraley Howell Springfield. While living in the lower end of Sixth and Market St. in Portsmouth, Barbara became the "Neighborhood Mom," to many young people there and still today continues to be remembered for the love and extra time she and her family spent with them. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Hospice Caregivers that attended Barbara in her last days. She goes with love and prayers from many friends and extended family near and far. She had a strong belief in a loving God and Heaven and we who are left behind can only pray to see her in heaven again one day. We will always love our dear mother. Services will be 11 AM Friday, July 22, 2011 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with her grandson Pastor Steve Hamilton officiating. Internment will be at Memorial Burial Park.
