Albert L. (Buck) Jackson, 82 of Portsmouth passed away Monday, 22 Dec 2014 at Hillview Health Care Center. He was born January 13, 1932 in Portsmouth to the late Ralph Jackson and Grace Wells Jackson. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Jackson Wilson.

Buck is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Scherer Jackson and two children: Larry (Virginia) Jackson of Warrenton, VA and David (Cheryl) Jackson of Bristow, VA. He has six grandchildren: Steven, Nathan, Laura and Nikolas Jackson; and Christina and Katie Tassa. He has one great grandson, Eric Potter, Jr. Buck is also survived by one sister, Mona (Bill) Compston of Delaware, OH; and two brothers, Richard (Janet) Jackson of Wilmington, NC, and Randy Jackson of Columbus, OH.

Buck graduated from Glenwood High School in New Boston in 1949. He enlisted in the Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990 following a career of active duty and reserve service. His military career included two tours of Korea and two tours of Viet Nam. Buck was a former paratrooper and member of the Green Beret, and was awarded the bronze star and air medal for his service in Viet Nam. He retired from the US Post Office, having worked in Portsmouth, Franklin Furnace and Gallipolis. He worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in New Boston for 20 years and also was a graduate of Campbell University.

Buck was a member of Saint Monica Catholic Church in New Boston. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending his time visiting his family in Virginia. He was an avid reader and sports fan. He was well liked by everyone, and will be greatly missed by all.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Monica Catholic Church at 10:00 Wednesday Dec. 24, 2014 with Father Joseph Yokum officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military graveside honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN NEW BOSTON preceded by the recitation of the Rosary at 5:00PM.
